International Contracts

Shiho-shoshi Lawyers and Gyosei-shoshi Lawyers handle many aspects of international legal affairs, including drawing up of international contracts.  Due to the increased borderless nature of society, the demand for such international law expertise has increased.

Legal English has a long historic tradition.  There are many unique and difficult terms, resulting in sentence, grammar and style that are different from standard English.  This has made legal documents in English difficult to understand for the general public. In spite of this, international business and negotiations are done with this so-called “Law English of the orthodox school.”

Drafting of English Contracts

As a result of increased business done with foreign companies as well as foreigners prospering in business in Japan, there is an increase in the overseas market advance of Japanese companies and joint business ventures with foreign companies.  Also the opportunities for a foreign company to enter the Japanese market are increasing. One of the results from this is the increase in cases where engineers from overseas are being employed.  Our office will draft and translate the following documents from English to Japanese or from Japanese to English, freeing the customer from having to do so.

There is a tendency to focus on the matter at hand when working toward the conclusion of a contract.  It is vital however, to look ahead to future considerations to be sure that all eventualities are adequately covered before finalizing a contract.  Everyday company activity and issues should be considered carefully before hurrying to sign a contract, so that trouble in the future can be handled smoothly.  In addition, since there is continual change to laws and ordinances, and company activity changes, we would recommend that you have us check your current contracts to insure that they comply with current law and your company practice.
